Zonasatu News –Era 80-an merupakan masa-masa berat bagi gerakan mahasiswa di Indonesia. Pemberlakuan kebijakan NKK/BKK (Normalisasi Kehidupan Kampus/Badan Koordinasi Kemahasiswaan) dari pemerintah dianggap sangat menghambat aktivitas organisasi kemahasiswaan saat itu. Kampus menjadi tempat terkungkungnya kebebasan intelektual, sebuah ironi.

Gatot kustyadji adalah mahasiswa teknik kimia ITS angkatan 1982, yang merasakan dan bersentuhan langsung dengan kebijakan NKK/BKK. Tahun 1984, perantau dari kota Madiun ini terpilih sbg anggota Badan Perwakilan Mahasiswa (BPM) FTI ITS mewakili jurusan Teknik Kimia. Karakter kepemimpinan yang melekat kuat mengantarkannya sebagai ketua umum senat Fakultas Teknologi Industri (FTI) ITS 1985/1986.

Di tahun 1986 ada suatu kisah yang melegenda di ITS hingga saat ini, saat Gatot menjadi ketum senat Fakultas Teknologi Industri. Bersama Soeharjono (Ketum BPM), Syamsul Junaedi (Sekretaris BPM), dia pernah menginisiasi demonstrasi untuk menentang Sistem Kredit Semester (SKS) yang dianggap sangat menghambat kebebasan berorganisasi di kampus.

”Hal itu jelas bertentangan dengan UUD 1945 pasal 28!. Perbaikan sistem boleh, tapi harus seimbang kebebasan berorganisasi, karena tugas kampus menghasilkan pemimpin bangsa ini kedepanya” ujarnya pada suatu kesempatan.

Demo tersebut dipersiapkan dengan matang, segala tuntutan disiapkan dengan argumentasi yang sangat logis. Jumlah massa yang hadir juga sangat signifikan. Ternyata kabar demo ini tersebar sampai skala nasional dan menginspirasi kampus-kampus lain melakukan gerakan senada.

Pasca aksi tersebut, Gatot bersama para inisiator demo yang lain dipanggil oleh Faturaqim Murtadho, PR III ITS saat itu. Ancaman drop out (DO) dari ITS telah terlontar pada partemuan itu. Terekam sebuah pembicaraan singkat waktu itu:

”Trus yoopo iki Cak?” tanya Samsul Junaedi kepada Gatot.

“Sudah resiko seorang pemimpin Jun, Insya Allah ada jalan keluar yang baik”, jawab Gatot dengan keyakinan diantara kegundahanya.

Gatot dan kawan -kawan pada akhirnya hanya pasrah setelah segala upaya nalar dan argumen dimentahkan oleh para pejabat rektorat. Tak disangka datanglah hembusan angin segar dari Jakarta.

Fuad Hasan (Menteri Pendidikan dan Kebudayaan 1985-1993) menelepon Hariono Sigit (Rektor ITS 1982-1986) terkait masalah demo di ITS dan mengatakan,

“Tidak apa-apa, biarkan saja. Itu adik-adik sedang belajar berorganisasi”, katanya.

Ketika dimintai komentar tentang kisah ini, Gatot hanya tertawa sambil berkata, “Alhamdulillah, … slamet.”

Gatot muda sekarang telah bertransformasi menjadi Dr. Ir. Gatot Kustyadji, M.Si yang hampir tiga dasawarsa berpengalaman sebagai profesional di industri semen. Saat ini diamanahi sebagai ketua harian PP IKA ITS yang sekaligus menjadi salah satu bakal calon ketua umum PP IKA ITS 2019-2023.
