Studi Cambridge University: Siapa yang Mengendalikan Politik di Indonesia

ZONASATUNEWS.COM – Banyak yang mengatakan kemunduran demokrasi di Indonesia terlihat dari melemahnya parlemen dan partai politik. Demokrasi terperangkap pembiayaan partai politik oleh oligarki, sehingga sebagian besar penguasaan partai politik ‘bergaya korporasi’ (dan monarki). Betulkah begitu?

Menurut Thomas Reuter dalam artikelnya yang diterbitkan oleh Cambridge.org dengan judul “Partai Politik dan Kekuatan Uang di Indonesia dan sekitarnya”, mengatakan, partai-partai politik di Indonesia dan di bagian lain Asia Tenggara telah menjadi sangat bergantung pada dukungan keuangan individu atau konglomerat dengan kekayaan pribadi yang besar.

Perkembangan baru yang luar biasa adalah bahwa beberapa miliarder yang telah lama mensponsori partai politik telah memutuskan untuk keluar sebagai pemimpin politik, dan dengan demikian mengadopsi gaya oligarki.

“Saya mendefinisikan oligarki sebagai masyarakat yang menampilkan penggabungan sistematis kekuatan politik dan ekonomi dalam individu yang sama atau dalam kelompok kecil elit individu tersebut dengan cara yang terlihat, ditoleransi, dan karenanya dilegitimasi,” kata Thomas Reuter..

Pergeseran bertahap dari politik uang klandestin (bawah tanah,diam-diam) ke oligarki terbuka merupakan tantangan signifikan bagi demokrasi liberal kontemporer.

Thomas menilai, konflik kepentingan antara tuntutan jabatan publik dan kepentingan pribadi mereka tampaknya sulit dihindari bagi politisi yang juga menjalankan kerajaan bisnis besar dan memiliki perkebunan besar.

“Di sisi lain, bagi miliarder sponsor partai politik untuk maju dan berdiri untuk jabatan publik secara pribadi juga berarti bahwa pengaruh klandestin mereka sampai sekarang menjadi lebih transparan, dan perilaku serta keputusan mereka lebih tunduk pada pengawasan dan akuntabilitas publik,” ungkapnya.
