“Suruh dia minta maaf pada Ali Firdaus dan jangan diulangi lagi kekurang ajaran padanya, kalo diulangi lagi bisa hilang hapalannya secara permanen,”… kata kyai sungguh-sungguh.

Perintah kyai ini disampaikan ke santri hafids tersebut, namun santri tersebut tidak segera minta maaf pada Paidi. Dia masih bingung siapa Ali Firdaus itu. Untung segera diberi tahu oleh Gus Mursyid bahwa Ali Firdaus itu adalah Kang Paidi.

Sebenarnya Santri yang akan lulus ini akhlaknya baik, dia tergolong santri yang pandai dan cepat menangkap ilmu-ilmu yang diajarkan di Pondok. Dia selain Pintar juga anak Juragan Batu Bara dari Kalimantan. Bapaknya sangat kaya raya.

Dia sengaja dipondokkan disini karena bapaknya mengharapkan anaknya menjadi orang yang pandai dan berahklak mulia, dan tujuan bapaknya ini nampaknya sudah hampir terwujud.

Setelah santri yang kehilangan hapalannya ini mengetahui siapa si Ali Firdaus, dengan menangis santri ini minta maaf pada kang Paidi.

Paidi kaget ketika santri itu menangis di hadapannya sambil minta dimaafkan kesalahannya. Namun dengan hormat dan santun Paidi berkata, “Salah sampeyan apa Gus, kok minta maaf segala…”

Kebiasaan Paidi sejak di Pondok itu dia memanggil para santi dengan sebutan ‘Gus’.

Paidi tidak basa-basi berkata demikian karena memang dia telah lupa pada kejadian itu, namun tetap saja Santri ini menangis di hadapan Paidi.

“Inggih-inggih saya maafkan..saya ikhlas”… kata Paidi walau tetap saja ia tidak mengerti permasalahannya.

Santri ini menghadap Paidi tidak sendiri, dia diantar oleh Gus Mursyid. Gus Mursyid sendiri juga heran melihat tingkah laku sang Santri hafidz tadi karena dia juga tidak mengetahui persis kejadiannya.

Namun karena Gus Mursyid ini mempunyai bakat-bakat sebagai Kyai Pengasuh Pondok ini, dia minta supaya sang Santri mencium tangan kang Paidi dengan hikmat…

Setelah acara maaf memaafkan ini walaupun tidak langsung, atas kehendak Allah hapalan santri tersebut berangsur angsur kembali lagi…

Entah diperintah abahnya atau kehendaknya sendiri Gus Mursyid berfatwa pada sang Santri yang kehilangan hafalannya…”Benar kata Allah, barang siapa memusuhi waliku, Aku mengumumkan perang dengannya,… “

Begitulah yang terjadi pada santri hafidz ini.

Sejak peristiwa itu para santri makin hormat dan tidak berani lagi bersikap kurang ajar pada Paidi. Malah mereka sekarang ada perasaan takut karena menganggap Paidi sebagai sesepuh pondok dan mata-mata kyai di dalam pondok.

Namun Paidi tetap bersikap biasa saja, tiap pagi dia tetap menyapu halaman pondok, ngepel masjid dan menata sandal para santri.

Hatinya tetap biasa saja tidak merasa hebat atau merasa rendah diri.

Baginya ketika menyapu halaman pondok serta menata sandal para santri itulah waktu ia bercakap cakap dengan Allah.
